Hi! I’m Pitu!

The short story

I am a tech enthusiast, strategy geek, policy junkie and rule breaker of the “rule of three”. I am a problem solver, organizer, and storyteller. Whether I am learning something new or diving deep into the familiar, I communicate with purpose, direction, and clarity. An introvert at heart, I am a proven leader but an even better teammate. Beyond the office or classroom, I enjoy great espresso and conversations. I also love hiking and have recently found a passion for volleyball.

The longer story

Born in a small village in Kampung Cham, Cambodia, I was whisked away at age three and found my home in Providence, Rhode Island, where my mother worked tirelessly to build a better life for our family. I’m a proud product of the public school system, with a Bachelor’s in Applied Economics from the University of Rhode Island and an MBA from Arizona State University. I was the first in my family to graduate high school (my mom nearly beat me earning her GED just weeks later) and pursue higher education.

Since graduating from URI, I’ve traversed the country and worked in various industries, and sectors - I’ve owned a brick-and-mortar shop, helped run a local political campaign or two, and currently run a coffee roasting and private catering business on the side. Through my experience, I’ve gained a lot of skills (I’d dare say I’m proficient at Excel) and discovered my passions for strategy, design, and technology and combining them to transform the world.

When my family first arrived to The States, we depended on the generosity of strangers in our community to teach us English, find employment opportunities, etc. As such, I’ve spent part of my time contributing back to the community and helping those who were in similar positions as I was. I’ve volunteered as an assistant ESL teacher in Nashville with Conexión Américas and supported middle school students from Latin and East African countries whose families recently arrived in The States while in Chicago. When I’m not spending my free time volunteering in the community, I like to go on hikes, read books and play volleyball (you can’t believe how playing with 6 of your friends can help develop your leadership and communication skills).

According to Gallup StrengthsQuest, I am an executing type, with my skills being: determination, discipline, focus, restorative, and significance (in no particular order). I’m also an INTJ - but don’t let that fool you into thinking I’m shy. I’m curious by nature and have a passion for transforming people’s lives. I am always looking for opportunities to utilize and expand upon my technical and leadership skills - but most importantly, challenge me to grow as a leader and teammate.
